IBM Siebel EAI Interview Questions and Answers.

What is a Virtual Business Component ( VBC ) ?
Answer : It allows data that is outside of the Siebel Database to be displayed within Siebel. This
allows the data to remain only external to Siebel, meaning that it does not have to be imported
into Siebel. Once this VBC is defined, it can be used within Siebel just like any other BC, with
a few restrictions.

When a Virtual Business Component ( VBC ) is appropriate ?
Answer : The appropiate cases are as cited below.
  • When the external system is the system of record then there is no need to duplicate the external data in the Siebel database
  • When the data from the external system is not defined within the Siebel schema
  • When the Siebel application is just one of many applications
Typical situations for using VBCs
  • Accessing credit card information
  • Updating inventory and accounting Information
  • Integrating 32 applications
What are the limitations of Virtual Business Components ( VBC ) ?
Answer : The limitations of a Siebel VBC are as cited below.
  • Virtual business components cannot be docked
  • Virtual business components cannot contain a multi-value group (MVG)
  • Virtual business components do not support many-to-many relationships
  • Specialized business components – for example, Quotes and forecasts – cannot be implemented as virtual business components
  • VBCs can only be a child components, never parents
Example: A VBC can provide account detail from an external application only if the Siebel application has the parent account record
  • VBCs do not support drilldowns and sort capabilities because both use a named search, which is not possible in a VBC
  • VBC field names must map to field names in the external system.
  • VBC detail data cannot appear in a wireless view because a wireless view displays only one (master) applet; a VBC must be a child.
  • Mobile users cannot use VBCs because there is no logging support as also Remote data is not stored in the Siebel database.
What are the different types of interface tables ? What are they ?
